Terms, Privacy & Uninstall
Terms & Conditions
These terms are an agreement between you and PDFKite (“PDFKite”, “we”, “us”) and cover your use of the PDFKite software (“the Software”). By downloading or using the Software you accept these terms.
- License. PDFKite grants you a free, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Software on any number of computers, for personal or business use.
- Restrictions. You may not sell, rent or sublicense the Software, or distribute modified copies of it. The Software includes open-source components (pdfcpu, PDF.js, go-webview2, Go x/image and x/text) that remain under their own licenses.
- Your files. You keep all rights to the documents you open and create with the Software, and you are responsible for having the right to convert or change them.
- No warranty. The Software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. Keep a copy of important documents before converting them.
- Limitation of liability. To the extent permitted by law, PDFKite is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for loss of data, arising from use of the Software.
- Termination. This license ends automatically if you break these terms. When it ends, delete all copies of the Software.
Privacy Policy
PDFKite runs entirely on your computer.
- Your documents stay on your PC. Files are processed locally and are never uploaded to PDFKite or anyone else.
- No account, and the app itself phones home about nothing. PDFKite needs no sign-up, and the application makes no network requests at all — it does not report which tools you use, what you convert, or that it is running. The installer does report three events; see Install and uninstall events below.
- Local storage. Converted files are saved to the folder you choose (Documents\PDFKite by default). The app keeps a small cache in %LOCALAPPDATA%\PDFKite. Text to PDF uses the fonts already installed on your PC. For a few scripts that need advanced shaping (such as Hindi or Thai) it may use the copy of Microsoft Edge on your PC, locally, with a temporary profile that is deleted after each conversion.
- The installer. PDFKite's window is drawn by the Microsoft WebView2 runtime, which comes with Windows 11 and recent Windows 10. If your PC doesn't have it, the installer runs Microsoft's official WebView2 setup, which downloads the runtime from Microsoft. That happens once, and it sends no information about you or your files.
- Install and uninstall events. So we can count installs, the installer tells our server when an install begins (
install_start), when it completes (install_finish), and when PDFKite is uninstalled (uninstall). Each message contains only a random install identifier generated on your PC, the PDFKite version, and nothing else — no name, no file names, no hardware identifier, no MAC address. As with any web request, our server also records the IP address it came from, and derives an approximate country and network operator from it. To install without sending anything, runPDFKite-Setup.exe /NOSTATSor set the environment variablePDFKITE_NO_STATS=1. That install stores no identifier at all, so it stays silent for its whole life — including when you later uninstall. The install works exactly the same either way. - This website serves its own fonts and images and makes no requests to third parties. Our web host may keep standard server logs (IP address, browser type, time of visit) to deliver downloads and prevent abuse.
Uninstall Instructions
PDFKite installs for your user account only, so removing it needs no admin rights:
- Close PDFKite.
- Open Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find PDFKite, click the … menu and choose Uninstall. You can also right-click PDFKite in the Start menu and choose Uninstall.
- The uninstaller offers to remove PDFKite’s cache folder (
%LOCALAPPDATA%\PDFKite) as well. Say yes unless you have a reason not to. - If you pinned PDFKite to Start or the taskbar, right-click it and choose Unpin.
This removes the program from %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\PDFKite and deletes its shortcuts.
The Microsoft WebView2 runtime is shared with other apps, so it is left installed.
Files you converted stay in Documents\PDFKite until you delete them.
Used an older portable copy? That version had no installer: close it, delete the
PDFKite.exe you downloaded, then delete the %LOCALAPPDATA%\PDFKite folder.
